Sri Lanka

Known as the tear drop of India Sri Lanka is a just about the size of Ireland and is fringed with sandy shores. This colonial gem has so much more to offer beside beaches and offers some of the best service in the world – its people are a joy.

There is so much to explore in the fascinating interior of the island stretching right up to the North where it appears time has stood still. Trincomalee and Jaffna welcome visitors and although still relatively undeveloped there are good places to stay, eat and lots to see and explore.

Its dazzling interior reveals emerald green paddy fields, iridescent birds, Buddhist temples and shrines, historic kingdoms, misty hills and lakes festooned with colourful lotus flowers and elegant tea plantations sprinkled with luxury Sri Lankan boutique hotels. The remaining jungles allow elephants to roam free and leopards to stalk prey in National parks like Yala in the south of the island. The cultural triangle is host to several world heritage sites and should be included as part of your stay.

Maldives

Strung out like pearls across some 90,000 sq km of the Indian Ocean similar in size to Portugal), the islands of the Maldives are a group of 1,190 tiny specks of land surrounded by unbelievable turquoise seas and sugar white sand . Just 200 are inhabited by the local population, and some 150 more are resorts.

The first resort opened in 1972 as a Robinson Crusoe style hide away. Today there is unrivalled luxury with many international chains vying for top spot.
